Description:

People with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are seven times more likely to have a 911 encounter than a neurotypical person. Join in this event for a comprehensive training with two first responders who are personally and professionally experienced in ASD. This event will be held at the Columbus Police Academy, 1000 N Hague Avenue in Columbus.

The focus of the training is recognizing the signs of ASD; discussion of how specific incidents should be handled; response and de-escalation techniques; behavioral, communication and sensory challenges for people with ASD; and training is a combination of information and actual incident reviews from real-life situations.

This event is sponsored by the Autism Society of Central Ohio.
