DD Council Announces Membership Opening for
A Private Non-Profit Organization
The Ohio Developmental
Disabilities Council (ODDC) has announced that it is seeking applicants in the
following categories of the federal DD Act: a)
individuals with a developmental disability, b) immediate relatives or guardians
of adults with mentally impairing disabilities who cannot advocate for
themselves, and c) parents or guardians of children with a developmental
disability.
Council
is also seeking applicants who represent a Private Non-Profit Organization
concerned with services for individuals with developmental disabilities. There
is one opening in this category.
All candidates for DD
Council membership should have experience serving on committees, boards or
organizations concerned with persons with developmental disabilities.
Applicants should have first-hand knowledge in the developmental
disabilities field. It is very
important that applicants have time to attend the ODDC monthly meetings,
including time to work on at least two committees.
Serving as a member of
Council provides the opportunity to get involved and work in a collaborative
manner with state policymakers, local provider, consumers and parents and family
members. Council advocates for, and
plans and conducts activities to improve the system of supports and services for
individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
The Council Nominating
Committee reviews applications and forwards recommendations to the Council.
The Council then forwards recommendations to the Governor for
appointment. Governor Strickland
will appoint members for 3-year terms beginning October 1, 2007 and ending
September 30, 2010. Application
