DD Council Seeks Applicants for Membership The Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council (ODDC)
is currently seeking applicants for membership terms beginning in October, 2007.
ODDC membership must comply with categories listed in the federal DD Act.
Openings this year will be for the following categories:
a) individuals with a
developmental disability, b) immediate relatives or guardians of adults with
mentally impairing disabilities who cannot advocate for themselves, and c)
parents or guardians of children with a developmental disability. All candidates for DD Council membership should
have experience serving on committees, boards or organizations concerned with
persons with developmental disabilities. Applicants
should have first-hand knowledge in the developmental disabilities field.
It is very important that applicants have time to attend the OODC monthly
meetings, including time to work on at least two committees. Serving as a member of Council provides the
opportunity to get involved and work in a collaborative manner with state
policymakers, local provider, consumers and parents and family members.
Council advocates for, and plans and conducts activities to improve the
system of supports and services for individuals with developmental disabilities
and their families. Governor Strickland will appoint members for 3-year
terms beginning October 1, 2007 and ending September 30, 2010.
Application packets are available from the ODDC office and must be
completed and returned to the office by May 1, 2007.
