Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council
Awards $725,000

The Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council (ODDC) recently awarded $725,000 in grant funding to the following five Ohio organizations:

  • Bellefaire Jewish Children’s Bureau, Shaker Heights, $50,000, one year, to print and distribute guidelines for providing services to people (birth to age 21) with autism spectrum disorders;
  • Wood County Children’s Services Association, Bowling Green, $50,000 for three years, for a total of $150,000, to improve mental health services for infants and toddlers;
  • REACH (Referral & Educational Association for Child Health), Portsmouth, $50,000 for three years, for a total of $150,000, to help parents of preschool children with disabilities understand their educational options and rights;
  • Memorial, Inc., Cincinnati, $50,000 for three years, for a total of $150,000, to create a task force to improve teacher development concerning needs of children with disabilities; and
  • Wright State University, Dayton, $75,000 for three years, for a total of $225,000, to make techniques currently used at centers of excellence more available for treatment of people with mental illness.

The ODDC is one of a national network of state councils committed to self-determination and community inclusion for people with developmental disabilities. ODDC receives federal funding to help carry out its mission of developing new and better ways of advocating, increasing capacities to assist people, and making needed changes to systems.

ODDC consists of 35 members appointed by the Governor. Members are people with developmental disabilities, parents and guardians of people with developmental disabilities, representatives of state agencies, and non-profit organizations and agencies that provide services to people with developmental disabilities.
