In Ohio

On Monday, April 1, 2019, the Ohio Departments of Developmental Disabilities, Mental Health and Addiction Services, and the Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities Agency provided testimony on their agency’s budget proposals. On Tuesday, the Department of Aging and Department of Health gave their testimony and on Wednesday, the Department of Medicaid and Department of Job and Family Services provided testimony.

On Monday, April 1, 2019, Senators Andrew Brenner and Nickie Antonio announced the creation of the Developmental Disabilities Caucus. The two senators will serve as co-chairs of the caucus in the first year and will meet quarterly to learn and discuss developmental disabilities issues. The inaugural meeting of the Caucus will be Tuesday, April 16th. 

On Tuesday, April 2, 2019, the Senate Ways and Means Committee held OPPONENT Testimony on Senate Bill 36. There were 15 written and verbal opponents to the bill, which would increase the tax bill on rental properties that receive federal subsidies. Opponents included:

NEXT Week in Public Policy: April 8 - 12, 2019

Anyone wishing to testify on the budget next week may do so under the following schedule. If you do plan to testify, plan to submit a written copy of your testimony to the Committee no less than 24 hours prior to the committee meeting. Testimony can be sent to FinanceSubHealth&HumanServicesCommittee@ohiohouse.gov.

On Monday, April 8, 2019, the House Finance Subcommittee on Health and Human Services will take PUBLIC TESTIMONY on the Department of Medicaid and Department of Developmental Disabilities budgets. The hearing will begin at 11:00 a.m. in Room 313 of the Ohio Statehouse. This hearing will be available online at www.ohiochannel.org.

On Tuesday, April 9, 2019, the House Finance Subcommittee on Health and Human Services will take PUBLIC TESTIMONY on the Department of Medicaid and Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services budgets. The hearing will begin at 10:00 a.m. in Room 313 of the Ohio Statehouse. This hearing will be available online at www.ohiochannel.org.

On Wednesday, April 10, 2019, the House Finance Subcommittee on Health and Human Services will take PUBLIC TESTIMONY on the budget for the Department of Job and Family Services, Department of Insurance, and Department of Health. The hearing will begin at 10:00 a.m. in Room 313 of the Ohio Statehouse. This hearing will be available online at www.ohiochannel.org.

On Thursday, April 11, 2019, the House Finance Subcommittee on Health and Human Services will take ALL Testimony on the budget for any other Health and Human Services Agency. The hearing will take place at 10:00 a.m. in Room 313 of the Ohio Statehouse. This hearing will be available online at www.ohiochannel.org.

On Tuesday, April 9, 2019, the House Insurance Committee will hold SPONSOR Testimony on Senate Bill 9 (Health Plan Claim Information). The bill would require health insurance companies to release “certain” health plan claim information to group plan policyholders (employers). This bill has already passed the Senate. The hearing will take place at 10:00 a.m. in Room 113 of the Ohio Statehouse.

On Wednesday, April 10, 2019, the House Finance Subcommittee on Agriculture, Development and Natural Resources will hear testimony from several agencies, including the Ohio Housing Finance Agency. The hearing will take place at 10:00 a.m. in Room 017 of the Ohio Statehouse.

In Washington

On Wednesday, April 10, 2019, the House Ways and Means Committee, Social Security Subcommittee will hold a hearing entitled, “Protecting and Improving Social Security: Comprehensive Legislative Proposals to Enhance Social Security.” The hearing is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. in Room 2020 of the Rayburn House Office Building.
